What does the Spinning Jenny do, and why was it important during it's time period?

It was a multi-spool spinning frame. With the Spinning Jenny around,  the amount of work needed to produce yarn was lessened.

The Spinning Jenny was machine that spun several threads at once. It was a metal frame with eight wooden spindles. Spindles were wooden spikes, that were very similar to spools.
